UA Early College
from an Early College student:
"I have been using the study tips [learned in UA Early College] in my high school studies, and I have done tremendously better on tests....
Early College has helped me prepare for my college years to come, and it has given me a feel for how I will manage my busy schedule next year when I enter Alabama as a freshman."  - Emily Lancaster

  • Our New Peer Coach Coordinator

Michael Bailey, our new Graduate Assistant and Peer Coach Coordinator, has been hard at work training the peer coach team, and reaching out to UA Early College students enrolled in spring 2011 courses. Michael is a UA graduate in Economics, and is a 1st year MBA Candidate specializing in Finance. He took some time out of his busy schedule for an interview with us:

    Q. What do you love about UA Early College?
    A. "What I love about Early College is that it gives students the chance to earn college credit from a prominent University while they are still in high school... [and] that it eases the transition from high school to college -- Early College students know exactly what to expect from college classes and they know precisely what it will take to be successful from the beginning of their first year as a degree seeking student."

    Q. What skills do students learn in UA Early College?
    A. "To me, the most important general aspect of what Early College teaches is time management. Time management is the most crucial tool for all students, and instilling that into your psyche while still in high school will be not only beneficial in college, but for the rest of your life."

    Q. What do you hope students will take away from this experience?
    A. "What I want students to take away from Early College is that they can accomplish anything with a strong work ethic and managing their time wisely. Early College is not easy. It will push you to your limits and stress you out, but if you stay determined you can excel."

You may have met Michael at the on-campus Gateway, or may have spoken to him by phone while he was a peer coach. We are delighted to have kept him among us in this new position! Want to hear more from Michael? Watch his video, "Get in the Game," on our website.
